Who We Are

I'm Louisa, a wood turner based in the heart of Somerset. My journey with the Story Spindles began with a simple idea – a beautifully crafted wooden spindle for storytelling. Little did I know, this simple object would come to hold a special place in our family 

 

I began using the spindle with my children during our storytelling sessions – whether we were playing in the garden, enjoying a picnic, or spending a quiet afternoon indoors on a rainy day. The spindle became a cherished part of our routine, helping us weave tales, spark imaginations, and even resolve disagreements. It became our “talking stick,” allowing each child to take their turn and share their thoughts during family discussions.

 

Seeing how much joy the spindle brought to our home, I realized that I wanted to share this simple yet powerful tool with others. So, I decided to learn the craft of wood turning, dedicating myself to the art of shaping wood into beautiful, functional Story Spindles. Over time, I’ve refined my craft, and now I’m proud to offer Story Spindles to families, storytellers, and anyone who appreciates the beauty of handcrafted wood. 

 

Each Story Spindle is carefully turned from ash in workshops in Somerset. My hope is that these Story Spindles will bring as much joy and connection to your family as they have to mine.  Thank you for being part of this journey – I’m so glad to share a little piece of storytelling magic with you.
